Lakshmi
Consort of the great Hindu god, Vishnu. She is the goddess of wealth and good fortune. During the Hindu celebration, Diwali, the festival of lights, lanterns are lit and fireworks exploded toplease the goddess. The goddess is said to visit houses which are well lit.
Lakshmi is sometimes associated with Indra and her presence is believed by some to bring fertility. There is a legend of Indra pouring rain on the landwith Lakshmi by his side so the crops flourished.Lakshmi appears in the great tale of creation, the churning the ocean, appearing on a lotus flower.
