Statues, Goddess Statues
Hindu mythology is full of colourful and powerful images. There are literally thousands of deities who are invoked at some stage in prayer and meditation to bring the seeker closer to the Source. In our showrooms we have a huge collection of Indian and Tibetan deities, from the very small to the extremely large, in marble, sandstone wood and brass. All the major deities are featured with a lot of focus on the many forms of Shiva, or as Nataraj the joyful Lord of the universal dance, and Ardnarishvara…half man half woman. Krishna and Arjuna and the great monkey god Hanuman, son of the Wind are all featured in our collection along with their feminine consorts. Tibetan deities include Avalokiswara, Padma Sambav and Manjushree. For more information on any deities send an e-mail and we will forward you a printable file. , Goddess Statues

Brass Ma Durga on Lion 27
Brass Ma Durga on Lion 27
(code: 00AADD01)

DURGA on lion ...a magnificent Goddess piece Crown on her head, serene and beautiful, yet riding a lion, and carrying different weapons in her eight hands. Durga is the fiercer form of the gentle Parvati. Later she evolved into Mahishasuramardini, the killer of the demon Mahishasura, and that image is still the most popular in all parts of India…The demon Mahisharua posed a threat to the gods because of the power earned through his penance. The gods appealed to Devi to subdue him. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva combined the radiance of their heavenly countenances and created a most beautiful woman, and she gathered the energies and the weapons of all the gods and set out to confront Mahishasur. Interestingly, Durga, though a warrior fully armed, still retains the beautiful attributes of Parvati. Devi as Durga combined the energies of all the gods and collecting their weapons, the trident, the discus, the javelin and the sword, took nine days to fight and defeat him. Durga is said to have assumed 10 forms or attributes to defeat a host of other demons. So, she is the ever changing, elusive warrior. She is Durga – beyond reach. She is also said to have taken Krishnas place in his mother’s womb as the seventh child to save Krishna from being killed by his uncle, Kansa, and sacrificed her life for him, whereby she attained her place as one of the most important deities, as promised by Krishna. It is also said that she was reincarnated as all the female goddesses – Amba, Shakti, Annapoorna, Gauri, Saraswati. She is also the goddess Manasa, who protects against snake bites; Rati, the controller of love and sexual passions; Shasti, the divinity of childbirth and protectress of children.
