SHIKARA DESIGN is exotic furniture, tribal rugs, architectural features, mystical art, decor items and homewares from the East. We stock a range of pieces that reflect an enormous mythological and religious heritage whilst at the same time having a unique aspect of design.
Along with the huge range of rustic furniture and exotic furnishings we have managed to gather a collection of pieces that have artistic appeal and 'spiritual' significance, some of the works being made by India's finest sculptors contributing to a large collection of mystical art and tantric art, with more shipments arriving regularly.
Since 2007 we have successfully liased with suppliers in Java Indonesia and are bringing in a magnificent range of recycled teak furniture including beds, rustic Bali daybeds, consoles, shelves, bathroom vanities, cupboards, sideboards, tables, chairs etc at competitive prices.
We often find ourselves overseas creating unique collections of commissioned items, architectural, furnishing and art for yoga centres, meditation retreats, retail outlets and restaurants. Some clients engage us to help create their dream home.
Please note. Due to the everchanging fluctuations in the market and currencies, some prices may change without notice.
Shikara Design is continuously collecting architectural features and rustic decor items. From old Indian doorways, columns and arches to iron gazebos and carving antique features, the feeling of 'ancience' is coloured by vibrance of rugs, saris, curtains and cushions. Whatever your design need, be it architectural or decor, we can source or make for you, usually delivering in a few months.
We are also in the enviable position of being manufacturers with a purpose built factory in Jodphur India shipping worldwide. There we have a group of skilled carpenters and artists, producing rustic Indian furniture and architectural pieces from kiln dried hardwoods. Many are made using old salvaged pieces such as doors and columns, making every piece a unique piece. We commonly receive commissions for domestic and larger projects.
Stock items include shelves, tables, coffee tables, sideboards, consoles, cupboards, daybeds, vanities, benches and trunks. The unique service we provide is the ability to provide Javanese and Indian furniture at call, to suit your taste and requirements. You may select from pieces we already have in stock, or you may request samples in other sizes. Provide us with photographs, designs and/or drawings of a selected piece and we can quote you a price and delivery time. Furniture is made from solid Indian hardwoods, sheesham and teak, utilising old doors, windows, columns and other recycled materials. We have managed to secure constant high quality supply of hand carved and crafted recycled timber furniture from Java, as you will see if you go to the furniture pages.
Our Indian manufactured pieces are all made from recycled teak or top grade aged sheehsam wood, a hard wood which doesn't warp, split or crack - the aging of the timbers giving it a rustic appeal. Some aged mango wood is also a useful and resourceful way of recycling unneeded old trees.
At another level we can work with you in design and concept development, whether it be for building, home or shop. Many of our products can be built in to create themes, and we welcome the chance to work with architects, developers, shop fitters and designers. We can help you manifest your design and decor dreams. We also have a unique relationship with the tribal people of Afghanistan and Central Asia, who hand craft exquisite tribal carpets, rugs, hall runners, cushions, kilims, donkey bags.
Carpets and Rugs
Carpets like Turkoman, Khal Mohammed, Baluch, Chobi, Shiraz, Nain and Kazakh are only some of our fine collection. Most of our rugs are hand crafted from hand spun wool using vegetable dyeing processes which take months to complete. We are regularly in the region buying directly from the source of these beautiful earth coloured rugs. Colourful Afghan kilims are a feature.
Our suppliers also include some of the finest artists in India - we are happy to have found brass craftsmen who can reproduce some of the classic bronze sculptures, examples of which are only found in museums these days. Our brass pieces are high quality castings with individual tooling and shaping to make each piece a unique classic - Buddha, Shiva, Ganesha, and Tara, to create an altar, garden feature, or purely to add a touch of the mystic to the home or office. Finely carved marble and sand stone Buddhas, Krishnas, Goddesses and Ganeshas are stunning exhibition quality.
